What: Fitchburg City Hall
Where: 718 Main St.
Owner: city of Fitchburg
Built: 1853
A renovation of Fitchburg’s city hall by Medford-based Bond Construction garnered Preservation Massachusetts’ Paul & Niki Tsongas Award, which recognizes the best in historic preservation efforts across the commonwealth.
In 2012, the building was declared unsafe after the failure of several roof trusses, and the municipal offices were moved to 166 Boulder Drive.
Designed by ICON Architecture, the $20.3 million renovation project transformed the historic 1853 Greek Revival building into a modern and efficient workspace, while supporting the city’s downtown economic development plan designed to revitalize the neighborhood.
They Said It:
“The building was completed with meticulous planning and extensive collaboration with owners. We’re extremely proud to have delivered a building that stands as a point of pride for the city, and that pays tribute to the history made inside.”
— Pamela Bailey, senior project manager, Bond Building
