- ICON Architecture designed a comprehensive series of updates to the library at Springfield College to reflect the growth of digital information sources and changes in teaching methods.
- The original brick and concrete south facade of the 1971 Brutalist structure was updated with fritted, colored glass windows to allow more daylight into the building. A new monumental staircase and LED light wall were installed to create a sense of spaciousness, and a new roof deck on the north side of the building overlooks the college’s Naismith Green.
- Print materials are housed on the fourth floor reserved for quiet study, while digital media and research stations and a presentation space known as “The Forum” were installed on lower floors. The new first floor houses a 24-hour reading room with information and technology services desks.
