Jan Miller, the former president and CEO of Wainwright Bank, will retire from Eastern Bank at the end of the year, Eastern’s Chair and CEO Bob Rivers said during the bank’s third quarter conference call last week.

Miller joined Eastern Bank in 2010 when Eastern acquired the socially conscious Wainwright Bank. Miller is Eastern’s vice chair and chief commercial banking officer and will remain a member of the bank’s board of advisers after his retirement.

“Jan is an exceptional leader and banker, and many of the community development lending and philanthropic programs developed under his leadership at Wainwright flourish at Eastern today,” Rivers said during the call.

Eastern’s senior commercial banking officers, Greg Buscone and Matthew Osborne, had previously been made executive vice presidents as part of ongoing succession planning, Rivers said. He added that they have been reporting to Eastern Bank President Quincy Miller since July and will formally take over leadership of the commercial banking business following Jan Miller’s retirement.

The bank’s insurance division will also see a leadership change next year. Eastern Insurance Group President and CEO John Koegel will move into a consultant role at the end of the year, Rivers said, and Tim Lodge will become the group’s next president and CEO.

Rivers said Koegel will focus on potential acquisition opportunities over the next couple of years ahead of his retirement. Koegel had joined Eastern Insurance Group in 2002, and Rivers said the division has acquired 34 agencies under has leadership.

Lodge joined Eastern Insurance Group two years ago and is currently executive vice president and head of the commercial lines business.
