Brookline-based Kaplan Construction recently completed work on the 12,000-square-foot sustainable Brookline Teen Center.

Renovations to the facility at 40 Aspinwall Ave. involved transforming a former auto body garage into a vibrant center with a bowling alley, aerobics dance studio, study lounge and other amenities. The project took Kaplan eight months to complete.

MLA Architects of Brookline and GMI Architects of Boston provided architectural design for the building. Additional project team members included GLC Development Resources/Stantec, RSE Associates and WSP Flack & Kurtz.

The environmentally responsible center utilizes sustainable building materials, water-efficient practices and a green mechanical and electrical system within a more energy-efficient exterior envelope. The project is expected to achieve LEED certification.

The teen center, which will serve teens in grades nine through 12, was first conceived in 2012 to fill the void of after-school public youth programs in Brookline. The new center celebrated its grand opening on Sunday.
