Le_LaboratoireLe Laboratoire Cambridge, an innovative design center that consists of a gallery, lecture hall and restaurant, opened to the public on Friday.

Le Lab, originally founded in Paris in 2007 by inventor, material scientist and Harvard Professor David Edwards, is located at 650 East Kendall St. in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.

Le Lab offers a bills itself as "an unparalleled idea space and incubator for cutting-edge exhibitions, dynamic public programming, boundary-breaking prototypes and inventive food and drink experiences at Café ArtScience," according to a press release.

The staff at the café, Café ArtScience, includes "Best of Boston" bartender Todd Maul, Parisian coffee-roasters Antoine Netien and Tom Clark and Chef Patrick Campbell, previously of No 9 Park. The opening gallery exhibit is Vocal Vibrations by Tod Machover and Neri Oxman of the MIT MediaLab. The exhibit runs through March 22, 2015 and is free to the public; however, a $10 charitable contribution is suggested.

C.E. Floyd Co., a Bedford-based general contractor and construction manager, worked with Brown Fenollosa Architects of Arlington and French designer Matthieu Lehanneur to build out the gallery, lecture hall and restaurant.
