LEGO Group will relocate its Americas headquarters to Boston while exiting its suburban Connecticut campus of nearly 50 years.

The toymaker will complete the move in late 2026, LEGO announced today. The company currently has 750 full-time employees at the Enfield headquarters.

“Boston is ranked one of the best cities in the world to attract and retain talent,” LEGO Group Americas President Skip Kodak said in a statement. “This, along with its world-class academic institutions, skilled workforce and great quality of life makes it an ideal location for our US head office.”

The company will begin a phased relocation in mid-2025, while both the Boston and Enfield offices will be operating. Connecticut employees will be offered relocation assistance if they accept jobs in the Boston office.

The company said it’s beginning a search for office space in “central Boston.” LEGO Education has 30 employees at an existing office at 501 Boylston St. in Back Bay, a company spokesperson said, and LEGO anticipates more than 500 employees will work in the new Boston headquarters.

LEGO has a hybrid workplace model in which employees are allowed to work from home two days per week, according to the company’s benefits policy.

Office tenants in the market for big blocks of space have plenty of options following a surge of sublease listings. CBRE is tracking 19 blocks of office space larger than 50,000 square feet in the downtown Boston market, according to a recent research report.

LEGO opened the Enfield office in 1975 including a factory, warehouse and office space, but currently only has office space at the property.

Concord-based Winstanley Enterprises bought LEGO’s Connecticut headquarters in 2017 and sold it in 2020 to USA Hauling & Recycling.

Editor’s note: This report has been updated with the headcount of LEGO Group’s existing Back Bay offices and details of the company’s hybrid work policy.
