LegoLand entranceLegoLand Discovery Center Boston, New England’s first LegoLand attraction, is opening today at Assembly Row in Somerville.

Construction of the 44,000-square-foot indoor attraction began in October 2013. The finished center includes a large-scale Lego replica of the Boston Public Library.

The scheduled public opening at noon followed a grand opening event at 11 a.m., which was planned to include the attraction’s mascot, Bertie, breaking through an eight-foot Lego wall and a performance by Somerville High School’s Highlander Drum Line.

LegoLand Discovery Center Boston is geared toward children aged three to 10 and their families. Tickets must be pre-purchased online to guarantee admission; tickets for opening weekend are sold out, according to a press release.

LegoLand is located at Assembly Row in Somerville, a 40-acre mixed-use development. Last week, The Nike Factory Store opened for business at the development, joining JP Licks and AMC Assembly Row 12 with IMAX as the first tenants to open their doors.
