Simon Property Group has submitted redevelopment plans to convert the 196,000-square-foot spaces formerly occupied by Sears at the Burlington Mall into a retail lifestyle center called the Burlington Mall Retail Collection.

The 48,216-square-foot Sears automotive center would be demolished and replaced with a 35,000-square-foot building with nine stores and five restaurants with seating capacity for 316 patrons, in addition to 157 patio seats. New pedestrian connections would link the development to the former Sears in the 1.3-million-square-foot mall, according to documents submitted to the town by attorney Mark Vaughan of Riemer & Braunstein.

The former Sears store will be repositioned with 124,299 square feet of retail space and 39,011 square feet reserved for restaurants with a total seating capacity of 1,107, along with 335 outdoor patio seats.

Sears subleased 73,000 square feet at its Burlington store to Irish apparel chain Primark in 2015. The Burlington Sears store was one of 39 that closed this spring as the troubled retailer attempts to stabilize its finances after losing $383 million in the fiscal year ending Feb. 3.

The site plan is under review by the Burlington planning board, which will resume its discussions on Thursday.
