Rick Bennet, CEO of Marlborough-based Main Street Bank will retire at the end of the year, and current bank president Wally Dwyer will succeed him.

After 43 years in the banking industry, and 17 of those years as CEO of Marlborough Savings Bank, now Main Street Bank, Bennett’s retirement is effective as of Dec. 31.

“Words can’t express the appreciation I have for my team, customers and peers that have done so much to help me grow as a person, as a manager and to help the bank achieve much success throughout my tenure,” Bennett said in a statement.

Dwyer will assume the role of CEO of Main Street Bank on Jan. 1. With over 28 years in banking, Dwyer was most recently president and CEO of the former North Middlesex Savings Bank, prior to its merger with Marlborough Savings Bank in 2017.

“I am both honored and humbled that the board has entrusted me with the responsibility of managing this great institution,” Dwyer said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working together with our talented team of great employees and our wonderful customers to help them achieve success.”
