Massachusetts single-family pending home sales for August fell 10 percent year-over-year and pending condominium sales were down 19 percent, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR).
This is the fourth straight month that year-over-year pending sales have gone down, according to a statement. However, the number of homes put under agreement from July to August was up for the first time in three straight months.
Single-family homes put under agreement were up 1.7 percent from 4,050 homes in July. Condos put under agreement were down 2.1 percent from 1,466 units in July.
"While we’re still down compared to the same time last year, there are signs that the rock-bottom interest rates might be starting to have an impact," said 2010 MAR President Kevin Sears, broker/co-owner of Sears Real Estate in Springfield. "Not only does the year-over-year gap appear to be closing, but also July to August pending sales increased for the first time since the end of the tax credit."
