Presenting the $5,000 check to Bill Grant and Dr. Bob Allison, of the South Boston Historical Society, and to Pauline Bare, Mr. Bare’s wife, were John Thomas, Mass Bay Credit Union CEO, and Jim Bain, of the Mass Bay Credit Union Board of Directors. A $5,000 donation was made to the South Boston Historical Society on behalf of the late Michael P. Bare by the South Boston-based Mass Bay Credit Union board of directors.

The donation will be used for the production of a documentary presently underway to help educate a new generation to the significance of the historic events of Evacuation Day – March 17, 1776, according to a statement. The documentary will be called The March for Higher Ground and will be presented to Boston public, charter and parochial schools to illustrate local history.

"South Boston’s history is as rich as any community in the country," said Mass Bay Credit Union CEO John Thomas. "By honoring Michael’s dedication to preserving Evacuation Day as a Suffolk County holiday, we at Mass Bay Credit Union are expressing our commitment to the South Boston community."
