MassPort has acquired three parcels of land totaling nearly 18 acres in South Boston from the MBTA for $7 million.
MBTA spokesman Joseph Pesaturo said the land sale, which closed last week, did not require a vote of the MBTA board of directors. The parcels off East 1st St. were used for an MBTA power station that was decommissioned and demolished in 2009, Pesaturo said via email.
Currently, the Boston Harbor Lobsterman Assoc. has a license to use part of the property for storage of traps and equipment. The rest of the property is vacant, Pesaturo said.
MassPort’s press office did not immediately return calls regarding the agency’s plans for the properties.
