A Jamaica Plain-based provider of meals and nutrition services is opening a satellite distribution center after leasing 23,000 square feet in Mansfield.
Community Servings will use the new location at 170 Forbes Boulevard to expand its services to clients in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The nonprofit provides nearly 5,000 meals daily to people with chronic and critical health conditions.
The long-term lease represents the first major expansion by Community Servings since it added 31,000 square feet to its Jamaica Plain headquarters in 2019. That project added a larger kitchen, culinary classrooms, a volunteer orientation room, offices and a center for food and health policy research.
Community Servings plans to renovate the interior of the building in Cabot Business Park in anticipation of a fall 2023 opening, CEO David Waters said in a statement.
“This project – an important new phase in our continuing growth – will also provide much-needed elbow room for the dedicated employees and 100-plus daily volunteers at our Jamaica Plain headquarters, where our entire operation has grown in place since 2007,” Waters said.
