A nonprofit organization that represents minority law enforcement officers plans to redevelop its Mattapan headquarters into a mixed-use development including a function hall and 45 compact living studio units.

The Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers said rental revenues from the housing and functions hosted at the new 61 Columbia Road facility could generate over $880,000 a year and solidify its finances.

The project, designed by Vanko Studio Architects of Roxbury, would replace a small building on the site with a 4-story, 36,921-square-foot complex including two auditoriums, a conference room, office space and 55-and-over studio apartments ranging from 400 to 430 square feet.

The 0.38-acre site includes four lots owned by the 38-year-old organization, according to a project application filed with the Boston Planning and Development Agency. The group is working with brokerage Hunneman on obtaining financing for the $15-million project.

According to a pro forma submitted with the application, the residential portion – including six income-restricted units – would generate $768,000 in annual rental income.

Revenues from rentals of the 4,244-square-foot event spaces could generate an additional $56,000 a year.
