Moderna Leases New HQ at Alexandria Development in Kendall Square

Moderna Pharmaceuticals has leased 462,000 square feet at Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ 325 Binney St. in Cambridge for a new headquarters and R&D facility.

The COVID vaccine manufacturer said it will begin a phased occupancy of the new development on the edge of Kendall Square in 2023.

Designed by architects NBBJ, the Alexandria Center at One Kendall Square will range from four to six stories and is designed to attain Net Zero energy performance.

Moderna is currently headquartered at 200 Technology Square in Cambridge.

The new headquarters is scheduled for completion in 2023 and will house Moderna’s mRNA research which led to development of its COVID-19 vaccine.

Alexandria acquired the property from Canal Realty Trust, which is suing the life science redeveloper for allegedly miscalculating the purchase price.
