National Foreclosure Filings Decrease In Nov., Mass. In Top 20

Foreclosure filings in the Bay State topped 4,000 in November, ranking it 19th in the nation, according to a new report from RealtyTrac.

There were 4,005 filings in Massachusetts in November. One in every 680 housing units received a foreclosure filing. The number of filings in the state were down more than 25 percent compared to October, but up more than 76 percent compared November 2008, the report found.

There were 306,627 total foreclosure filings on properties nationwide in November, up 18 percent from the same month last year, but down more than 7 percent compared to October.

Nevada, Florida and California posted top state foreclosure rates with 9,295, 52,935 and 73,995 filings, respectively.
