new_york_life_logoNew York Life will donate $100,000 to One Fund Boston, established by Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to help the families and first responders affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

"Our thoughts remain with the victims and their families affected by this senseless act of violence as they begin to recover and move forward," Ted Mathas, the insurance company’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

John Hancock Financial Services, the marathon’s lead sponsor, provided $1 million to seed the fund. To date, corporations have given $16.9 million, with individuals providing $9.45 million, to help victims and families affected by the April 15 attacks that left three dead and more than 170 injured.

Mayor Menino and his staff have been considering where to locate a permanent memorial to the victims, but as of this morning no decision had been made, according to Emilee Ellison, a spokesperson for the mayor.
