A New Hampshire man has been indicted for allegedly committing five bank robberies last year in Northern Massachusetts.

Reinaldo Ortiz, 45, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on five counts of bank robbery, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office. Ortiz was previously arrested and charged by criminal complaint on Jan. 12.

According to the charging documents, between March 9 and March 24, 2022, Ortiz drove from New Hampshire to Massachusetts and robbed a string of banks in Fitchburg, Lowell, Chelmsford, Wilmington and Lexington.

Ortiz allegedly wore a mask when he entered each of the banks and demanded cash from the teller’s drawer, according to the statement. When the tellers complied, Ortiz allegedly left with several thousand dollars in cash from each bank and fled in a gray 2006 Honda Accord.

A subsequent investigation allegedly found Ortiz’s fingerprints on a glove discarded outside one of the robbed banks, the statement said, and his cellphone movement was consistent with the robbery route.

The bank branches where the robberies occurred, according to court documents, were Enterprise Bank in Fitchburg, Santander Bank in Lowell, Eastern Bank in Chelmsford, Align Credit Union in Wilmington and TD Bank in Lexington. Ortiz allegedly took about $21,000 total from the five banks, according to court documents.
