The Savings Bank Life Insurance Co. of Massachusetts (SBLI) has praised Gov. Deval Patrick for signing a bill which will strip the requirement to charge men and women the same rates for life insurance.
"SBLI applauds the Patrick administration’s signing of House Bill 889, which levels the competitive playing field by allowing us to do business just like all the other companies selling life insurance in Massachusetts," Robert K. Sheridan, president and CEO, said. "We also are grateful to the Massachusetts House and Senate and the many individuals and organizations that supported our quest for fair treatment under the law."
He added: "SBLI has provided safe, low-cost life insurance to the people of Massachusetts for more than 100 years. The signing of HB889 will allow us to compete, not only in Massachusetts but across the nation, with the lowest possible life insurance rates for both men and women."
