A Dutch technology company that backed out of plans to become the first major commercial tenant at Union Point in Weymouth has committed to another property south of Boston.

Prodrive Technologies signed a 10.5-year lease for 53,500 square feet at 15-21 University Road in Canton for a new headquarters, landlord Calare Properties of Hudson said. The company will occupy the space in September.

Prodrive agreed to open a U.S. headquarters at Union Point, the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station, in 2016 with plans for up to 550,000 square feet of office, research and manufacturing space. The company shelved the plans amid financial and legal problems by master developer LStar Ventures, which was recently removed from its role at the 1,450-acre property by public overseer Southfield Redevelopment Authority.

Calare purchased the 107,600-square-foot University Road property in 2017 and has upgraded the 17-acre property with new parking lots, interior renovations, mechanical system upgrades and cosmetic improvements.

Steve Clancy of CBRE brokered the Canton lease on behalf of Prodrive. Tony Coskren of Newmark Knight Frank represented Calare.
