A Quincy-based developer has been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for illegal contributions to the campaigns of city councilors, the Norfolk County Sheriff, Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.

Boston Property Ventures LLC, through its employees, made $57,700 donations to 11 candidates between 2017 to 2020, according to the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance. Under Massachusetts law, LLCs are not allowed to make political contributions to individual candidates and contributors are not allowed to disguise the true source of campaign donations.

Boston Property Ventures donated to the following candidates:

  • Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch: $15,500
  • Gov. Charlie Baker: $10,000
  • Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito: $10,000
  • Quincy City Councilor Brad Croall: $13,000
  • Quincy City Councilor Brian Palmucci: $5,000
  • Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry McDermott
  • Former Quincy City Councilor Kirsten Hughes: $1,500
  • Quincy City Councilor Noel diBona: $1,000
  • Former Quincy City Councilor Margaret Laforest: $1,000
  • Boston City Councilor Michael Flaherty: $1,000
  • Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn: $1,000

The OCPF said all the candidates involved will pay the money they received from Boston Property Ventures to the state.

Boston Property Ventures has developed over 100 units of multifamily housing near downtown Quincy and three condominium conversions of buildings on Boston’s exclusive Newbury Street.
