The Savings Bank Life Insurance Co. of Massachusetts (SBLI ) has hired Matthew C. Regan III as senior vice president and general counsel. Regan will be based at its headquarters in Woburn.

Prior to joining SBLI, Mr. Regan spent 17 years with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, where he established enforcement policies and procedures as chief enforcement counsel and later oversaw market conduct of domestic and foreign insurance companies as director of market conduct. Regan also served as counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Correction and was an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, where he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases.

Regan holds the designations of market conduct manager from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society and professional in insurance regulation from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
