The owner of a western Massachusetts restaurant has pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges.
Ioanis Dimitriou, of Montague, entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Springfield to five counts of filing false tax returns.
Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Dimitriou paid 5 percent of the more than $232,000 in taxes he owed between 2008 and 2012. They say he deleted records from his computer and kept two sets of books, one that depicted the actual sales of Goodies Restaurant in Greenfield, and one that showed the sales disclosed on his tax returns.
Dimitriou tells The Recorder of Greenfield that the charges don’t show a fair side of the story and he will pay everything he owes.
He faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 30.
