A Rhode Island man pleaded guilty in Boston federal court to five Eastern Massachusetts bank robberies within a seven-day period that ended in a high-speed chase.

Dong Lee, 50, pleaded guilty Tuesday to five counts of bank robbery, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office. He was charged in October 2018 with his co-defendant, Charles Lamont Wheeler, 46, who pleaded guilty in March.

According to the U.S attorney’s statement, Lee and Wheeler were responsible five robberies in 2018 at Santander Bank in Andover on Sept. 8, Berkshire Bank in Boston on Sept. 8, Rockland Trust in Braintree on Sept. 12, Abington Savings Bank in Avon on Sept. 14, and Crescent Credit Union in Brockton, also on Sept. 14.

Following the Sept. 14 robberies, Lee and Wheeler were arrested after a high-speed car chase by the Massachusetts State Police.

Sentencing is scheduled for February. The charging statute provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.
