The Metro North corridor’s robotics cluster is expanding with groundbreaking today of a new 200,000-square-foot headquarters.

Teams from Wilmington-based Locus Robotics’ engineering, manufacturing and operations teams will occupy the new facility.at 100 Fordham Road. The company has contracts for use of its mobile robots at more than 230 warehouses worldwide, including uses in the retail, health care and manufacturing industries.

In November, Locus Robotics received $117 million in series D venture capital funding led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and G2 Venture Partners.

The firm has been steadily expanding in Wilmington in recent years, signing a nearly 46,000-square-foot lease expansion at 301 Ballardvale St. in 2017.

The 100 Fordham Road project was a speculative project by Carlisle Capital.

The robotics industry cluster in the Metro North corridor also includes Amazon Robotics’ R&D facility at 300 Riverpark Drive in North Reading.
