Boston-based Samuels & Assoc. is proposing to redevelop a cluster of commercial parcels in the transforming Barry’s Corner section of Allston as a 270-unit apartment complex.

The plans call for a seven-story, 200,000-square-foot building on a 1.1-acre site that includes surface parking, a three-story residential building and several commercial buildings, according to a notification letter submitted Tuesday to the Boston Planning and Development Agency.

The site includes a group of parcels owned by Samuels & Assoc. and others ground-leased from Harvard University.

The BPDA is in the midst of a Western Avenue planning study, which contemplates rezoning for higher density as the neighborhood attracts more life science and multifamily projects. Some of the region’s top developers are seeking approvals for large-scale projects in the neighborhood near Harvard Business School.

Samuels completed the Continuum apartment building in 2015 at Barry’s Corner, and the university is nearing completion of its new 900,000-square-foot Science and Engineering Complex near the latest development site.

Mugar Enterprises and Boston-based life science developer King Street Properties are proposing a 500,000-square-foot mixed-use development on Western Avenue across from and near the Samuels and Harvard parcels.

And The Davis Cos. of Boston is seeking approval for 535 apartments at the former Skating Club of Boston property on Soldiers Field Road, and a 120-unit condo complex and 225-room hotel at its neighboring Studio Allston hotel property.
