As part of a strategy to expand its growth in New England, Shawmut Design and Construction hired a former Boston Planning & Development Agency official and a life science specialist as new business development leaders.

Michael Christopher, a former BPDA director of development review, and Caren Jenkins, a client strategist at design and engineering consultants CRB, joined the Boston-based firm as it seeks to expand its market share.

Christopher was most recently the BDPA’s director of development review and a 10-year agency employee. At CRB, Jenkins specialized in life science and biomanufacturing projects.

Christopher and Jenkins join Jeff Cammuso as the firm’s New England business development leads.

The firm’s major current projects include a 375,000-square-foot life science development in Somerville’s Boynton Yards and a biomedical research complex at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester.
