Office market shakeups in downtown Boston led to significant activity in the second quarter, according to new statistics from Jones Lang LaSalle.
"Vacancy ticked up slightly, occupancy declined by less than 0.5 percent and the average asking rent dipped by 10 cents," according to JLL.
Although the statistics suggest a slow quarter, the commercial real estate company said some big moves will have lasting impacts on the Hub. For example, Bain Capital’s move to the John Hancock Tower at 200 Clarendon St. from 111 Huntington Ave. could lead to a game of "musical chairs" for the submarket’s largest tenants.
In Cambridge, IBM renewed and contracted into 67,767 square feet on the first three floors of One Rogers St. in East Cambridge for five years.
In the suburbs, State Street Corp. made several moves to consolidate its portfolio. The company renewed 1200 Crown Colony Drive and 200 Newport Ave. in Quincy, but opted now to renew at 2 Granite Ave. in Milton.
