A top Suffolk Construction executive has been named to the board of directors of The New England Council, a non-partisan alliance of businesses, colleges, institutions and public and private organizations.

Katy O’Neil, of Duxbury, is currently vice president of Northeast business development and client relations for Suffolk Construction. Prior to joining Suffolk, O’Neil was the executive vice president for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, where she spent 22 years of her career. She is the former chair of the board of the Massachusetts March of Dimes, a member of Mayor Walsh’s Women’s Workforce Council, member of Board of Overseers for the Boch Center, a member of the Babson Boston Advisory Council and a board member for the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at UMASS Boston.

The New England Council named two other business leaders alongside O’Neil – Amy Dow, director of public relations and government affairs for New Balance Athletics, and Shaun Real, a partner and the New England financial services industry leader in law firm Ernst & Young’s Boston office.

“These three dynamic leaders will bring to our board of directors vast experience and expertise, and I look forward to working with them as The New England Council continues to pursue our mission of promoting economic growth and a high quality of life in our region,” The New England Council President and CEO James T. Brett said in a statement. “Further, I believe this group of new directors appropriately represents the incredibly diverse array of industries present in New England, and they will bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the table.”
