A $17 million tax-exempt bond from MassDevelopment will pay for construction of a new middle school and student residence hall at the Doctor Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster and construction of a new arts wing at the school’s Janeway Education Center.

TD Bank purchased the bond, which was also used to refinance previously issued debt.

The nonprofit human services provider and school provides day and residential services for children and adults with mental health, developmental and educational challenges.

The project, which began in September, includes demolition of aging buildings and construction to make way for the new school and residences. The Janeway Center addition will enable the school to add a science classroom in its main building.

Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2021.
