After announcing a $20 billion “community impact plan” focusing on five metro areas, including Boston, TD Bank said it will open a branch in Nubian Square in Roxbury in the fall as a part of an effort to serve low- and moderate-income individuals and families, and minority communities.

The branch will be at 2221 Washington St., and a bank spokesperson said it is a part of the 15 branches that TD plans to open under the community investment plan in low- and moderate-income or majority-minority neighborhoods.

Michael Innis-Thompson, TD’s head of community lending and development, said the branch will follow the bank’s existing model of “community-focused stores” and will serve the predominantly minority and Black communities in Roxbury.

“These community stores are designed so that the community can come in and use space within those stores to help provide financial education classes and help meet the needs of its residents,” Innis-Thompson said. “This store in Roxbury will further our commitment to ensuring access to our banking products and investments on the CDFI side.”

TD has opened five branches using the format nationwide in the past year: one in Jacksonville, Florida; three in Charlotte, North Carolina; and one in Philadelphia.
