Construction of the Boston Bruins’ new practice facility in Brighton is on schedule for a September 2016 completion, enabling the team to begin training camp in Boston after three decades practicing in Wilmington.
Construction crews placed the final beam atop the Warrior Ice Arena on Thursday, part of the Boston Landing mixed-use development on Guest Street.
The 175,000-square-foot facility is located next to the new 250,000-square-foot headquarters of New Balance, which opened last month.
Boston-based HYM Investment Group is partnering with NB Development on the $500 million Boston Landing project spanning 15 acres on the south side of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
A 10-story, 190,000-square-foot office building under construction at 80 Guest St. also is scheduled for completion next September.
HYM Investments’ Managing Director Thomas O’Brien said the development team is trying to recruit companies shut out of Cambridge’s Kendall Square, which has occupancy rates in the high 90 percent range.
“We’re talking to some life science people and a variety of other potential office tenants,” O’Brien said. “Kendall Square is full. That’s the issue. So this is a good alternative.”
Other elements of the project, which was approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority in 2012, include 80,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a 175-room hotel, and an additional 460,000 square feet of build-to-suit office space.
Michigan-based athletic equipment manufacturer Warrior Sports bought the naming rights for the practice facility. Winchester-based John Moriarty Assoc. is the construction manager.
