A 34-acre Chelmsford parcel once used as University of Massachusetts Lowell’s West Campus has sold at auction for $3.24 million.

Last week’s auction saw a “fierce” bidding war, said Paul T. Zekos of Shrewsbury-based Zekos Group Auctioneers, who ran the auction.

The seller was the state, through the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance.

The buyer was Lexington resident Alice Cui. Cui told the Lowell Sun in the immediate aftermath of the auction she has not finalized her plans for the property. DCAMM had promoted the property as an “ideal residential development opportunity” close to highways and an MBTA Commuter Rail station. It currently contains four dilapidated buildings ranging from 4,393 to 13,557 square feet and  is zoned for single-family homes on 40,000-square-foot lots by right.

Originally developed as the Middlesex County Training School in the 1890s, the property was purchased by Wang Laboratories in the 1980s before being sold to the university.
