In an effort to reduce backlogs in applications for small businesses and home improvement projects, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh announced the creation of a new zoning board of appeals (ZBA) for small projects.
A subcommittee of the ZBA will meet every other Thursday to hear requests for variances including one- and two-family owner-occupied residential projects. The first hearing will be Sept. 11.
Applicants interested in having appeals heard by the subcommittee can call (617) 635-5300.
Walsh has set a goal of streamlining Boston’s permitting and licensing system. Since February, an interagency team has been meeting to propose changes to the current system.
