Wayfair’s lease of 300,000 square feet at St. James Ave. in Boston will enable it to expand its Back Bay workforce to 10,000 – along with another 300 at a new sales and customer service center in Pittsfield.

The $6.2-billion-a-year online home furnishing retailer was awarded $31 million in tax breaks from the state Economic Assistance Coordinating Council in exchange for a promise to add 3,300 jobs over the next 10 years.

Wayfair has been scouting office locations in Back Bay to accommodate its rapid growth. The St. James Avenue location joins its existing offices at 4 Copley Place and a 395,000-square-foot lease signed in July for 500 Boylston-222 Berkeley St.

Wayfair said it will begin hiring for 300 jobs at CEO Niraj Shah’s hometown of Pittsfield in early 2019.

“Steve Conine and I founded the company here in 2002 and with the incredible talent located in Massachusetts built a team that has transformed our small start-up business into a $6 billion global e-commerce leader with tremendous growth opportunities ahead,” CEO Niraj Shah said in a statement.

Wayfair’s workforce totals nearly 11,000 employees in North America and Europe.
