Whole Foods Market today opened at Weymouth’s Pleasant Shops.

The supermarket’s newest store, located at the intersection of Route 18 and Pleasant Valley Parkway, is the 23rd in Massachusetts. It celebrated its opening with the company’s traditional bread-breaking ceremony.

"The Whole Foods Market concept is a great enhancement to Pleasant Shops," said John Hendrickson, Northeast regional chief operating officer for Federal Realty Investment Trust. Federal Realty Investment Trust and a client advised by Clarion Partners acquired Pleasant Shops in a joint venture.

At 40,000 square feet, the store will employ approximately 140 full and part time workers. Unique store features also include a coffee and smoothie bar with seating, pizza oven with a direct take-out phone line and an artisanal cheese room.
