A worker at an MIT construction site on Cambridge’s Vassar Street was killed in an “industrial accident” Thursday, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said in a statement.

At approximately 3 p.m., a crew was working on a lower floor when material collapsed on top of workers from an above floor, the DA’s Office said. Three workers were transported to an area hospital where one, a 41-year-old man from Taunton, later died. The two other workers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Media reports identified the workers as employees of Walsh Bros. Construction.

The building under construction at 121 and 169 Vassar St. is planned to be 450-bed, 155,978-square-foot dormitory.

This case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will determine the cause of death, but the DA’s Office said the death is not being considered suspicious.
