The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority has been approved to build two hotels at 371 to 401 D St. in South Boston and a parking garage, all with a $190 million price tag.
The two hotels, The Element and Aloft, will be "mid-priced hotels," according to the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
The two hotels will total 135,448 square feet. The BRA also approved an adjacent 1,350-space parking garage that will total 107,747 square feet. The structure will replace an existing surface parking lot and will include ground floor retail.
The projects will create 593 temporary construction jobs and 150 permanent jobs, according to the BRA.
One hotel, Aloft, will be a select-service hotel with 330 rooms geared toward business travelers with short stays. The hotel will house a business center and ground floor retail. The other hotel, The Element, will have 180 rooms accommodating an extended stay for guests planning a three- to five-day visit. Rooms will have small kitchens.
