Fall River’s BankFive teamed up with the Fall River Public Library to offer a free reading program to local children.
The program for children ages 5-8 kicked off on Wednesday and was focused on financial literacy, according to a statement. The event featured guest readers, Bill Eccles, BankFive executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Mayor Will Flannigan.
Special guests for the event included Coinella, the Good-Savings Witch, and Nickels, BankFive’s canine mascot. The children also decorated piggy banks and worked on Halloween mazes.
This will be a recurring program, taking place every third Wednesday of the month ending in April, according to a statement. Each event will feature a different guest reader followed by a craft or other activity.
Children will also learn about financial literacy, including lessons in saving and budgeting.
