With a proposed 400-unit mixed-use project at 15 Enterprise St. in Dorchester, developer Edens’ 700,000-square-foot mixed-use addition to the South Bay shopping center may soon have company.

Bass Realty filed a letter of intent for the project with the Boston Planning & Development Authority on Thursday. The letter outlines a single, 385,635-square-foot, 5-story building with 18,000 square feet of retail on the ground floor and 260 below-grade parking spaces. The project would also include 79,850 square feet of public open space and 19,460 square feet of roof deck and other private outdoor amenity spaces.

The project will include on-site affordable units, the letter says.

The 169,268-square-foot site is currently home to a pair of low industrial buildings and is a short walk to the Newmarket commuter rail stop and the Red Line station in Andrew Square.
