Shawmut Design & Construction has begun a 120,000-square-foot renovation of The Langham, Boston hotel that will spotlight the property’s architectural elements and history as the original Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Designed by architects Dyer Brown and interior designer Richmond International, the project involves renovations of all 312 guest rooms, common areas and meeting spaces and new finishes, millwork and furniture. Five guest rooms were demolished to make way for the Club Lounge, a new private space on the eighth floor.

The project also includes two new ballrooms and a new lobby bar. Bond restaurant is being updated while retaining the original brass “Federal Reserve” seal embedded in the terrazzo flooring.

They Said It:

“Our team is performing work on the guest rooms, suites, public spaces, and back of house, including the creation of the new Lincoln Ballroom and the new private Club Lounge. Tapping into both our extensive hotel and historic renovation expertise, our scope ranges from structural enhancements to preserving the historical Wyeth Room and its period finishes and artwork – all while navigating the logistics of working in the heart of downtown Boston.”
