Boston-based Berkshire Income Realty Inc. has acquired Gatehouse 75, a 99-unit luxury apartment community in Charlestown, from Metric Corp. of Boston.
The purchase price was $54.45 million, according to Suffolk County Registry of Deeds filings.
Berkshire Communities, the property management division of Berkshire Group, will manage the complex.
"We believe this property’s access to public transit and proximity to retail, restaurants and entertainment offer a compelling proposition to residents desiring a modern community in an urban live-work-play environment," Chuck Leitner, president and chairman of Berkshire Income Realty, said in a statement.
Berkshire, a publicly-traded REIT, owns interests in 14 multifamily properties and two multifamily development projects in the U.S. Its parent company, Berkshire Group, is partnering with Boston Global Investors on the initial $600-million phase of the Seaport Square development in South Boston. Berkshire will own 832 apartments in the Benjamin and VIA complexes on the upper floors of the 1.5-million-square-foot complex now under construction on Seaport Boulevard, above 250,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
