Berkshire Bank’s insurance affiliate announced today that it has moved its headquarters to Pittsfield’s historic district.
Berkshire Insurance Group will now call the Old Town Hall, located at 43 East St. in the city’s Park Square Historic District, its home. Previously, the group had its headquarters located at 66 West St.
“Our agency has a history of helping Berkshire County customers dating back to the 1870s,” Vice President Steven W. Cronin said in a statement. “We are pleased to call the historic Old Town Hall our home, and look forward to continue to serve generations of clients.”
Berkshire Insurance Group made a number of interior renovations to the historic building, including the removal of a teller line and bank safe, and the addition of new cubicles for its staff.
Old Town Hall is a historic building on Park Square in the heart of downtown Pittsfield. For 135 years, the building served as the center of municipal government. It became City Hall when Pittsfield was incorporated as a city in 1891. The hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and included in the Park Square Historic District in 1975.
