William Howard, president of Beverly Cooperative Bank, has been named an "Enduring Hero" by the American Red Cross, Northeast Chapter.

Howard is among 13 "heroes" to be honored. Howard, of Beverly, was chosen because he is a person who has made a difference in the community by engaging in numerous activities over a long period of time, according to a statement.

Howard’s community activities include:

• Treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Beverly Main Streets Program
• Treasurer, board of trustees, executive and finance committees of Endicott College
• Executive committee and treasurer of the Salem Partnership
• Commissioner of the Essex National Heritage Commission
• Commissioner of Trust Funds for the city of Beverly
• Treasurer and board of directors Creative Economy of the North Shore
• Board of directors for North Shore Alliance
• City of Beverly Economic and Community Development Council
• Member of the board of directors of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce
• Member of the board of trustees of Fisher Fuel Society
• Member of Beverly Rotary Club
