Dominic L. Blue has been appointed vice president and assistant general counsel of Springfield-based Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.’s (MassMutual) law division.

In this role, Blue will lead the corporate law section of the department, be responsible for corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, employment, benefits, contracts, intellectual property, privacy and general corporate law practice, according to a statement.

"We are very excited to have Dominic on board," said Mark Roellig, executive vice president and general counsel at MassMutual. "With his broad expertise in a number of legal areas, leadership experience and business acumen, he is an excellent addition to MassMutual and our team."

Blue comes to MassMutual after six years at the Boston office of the law firm of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP, where his practice involved general corporate issues and acting as general counsel for various growth companies. Prior to working at Edwards and Angell, he was an associate at Boston law firm Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP.

Blue currently serves as the president of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association.
