BNY MellonNew York-based BNY Mellon, which has several offices throughout Massachusetts, is launching a workforce development initiative over five years to assist vulnerable youth making the transition into adulthood.

In Boston, $1.25 million will be awarded to local nonprofits helping youth transition out of foster care, according to a statement. BNY Mellon will provide $250,000 in the first year to three Boston-area nonprofits to extend or add to programs serving this group of individuals.

A total of $6 million will be awarded worldwide.
