Thomas R. Burton, president and chief executive officer of Hampden Bank, and Mark O’Connell, president and chief executive officer of Avidia Bank, have been elected to the board of directors of Woburn-based Depositors Insurance Fund.

The Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF) provides excess deposit insurance to 68 Massachusetts-chartered savings banks. At DIF member banks, all deposit amounts above FDIC insurance limits are insured in full by the Depositors Insurance Fund.

Burton joined Hampden Bank in 1993. Previously, he was managing partner of the Springfield office of KPMG Peat Marwick.

O’Connell joined Hudson Savings Bank, a predecessor of Avidia, in 1988 and became president and chief executive officer in 2004. A Certified Public Accountant, O’Connell was previously with T. C. Edwards & Co. as an auditor and partner.
