The Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation recently presented $65,000 in scholarships to students of the class of 2009.
The scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors from public high schools in Cambridge, Acton-Boxborough, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Concord-Carlisle, Lexington, Newton, Somerville and Watertown, who are attending two- or four-year colleges.
"We are proud to continue this longstanding tradition even in these economically challenging times," said Robert M. Wilson, president, Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation and president/CEO, Cambridge Savings Bank. "This donation is a testament to the commitment we have to supporting tomorrow’s future leaders. Over the past 18 years, the bank’s foundation has awarded 269 scholarships totaling $618,000."
The scholarships are named for Kevin J. Fitzgerald, former CEO of the bank who retired in 2009. Fitzgerald began working for the bank while in college through a cooperative education program and started his full-time banking career upon graduating in 1967
