Metro Credit Union is expanding its field of membership.

The Chelsea-based credit union announced this morning that its membership has voted to expand field of membership to include the New Hampshire counties of Rockingham and Hillsborough.

The expansion, which was voted on by the credit union’s membership on Oct. 9, was initiated due to requests from members who work in Massachusetts and live in New Hampshire, who were unable to add family members to accounts because they did not qualify for membership.

By expanding its field of membership to southern New Hampshire, Metro Credit Union gains the opportunity to assist individuals and businesses that live, work or have a place of business within the cities and towns located in Hillsborough and Rockingham counties.

“This is a very exciting time for Metro as we expand to our neighboring New Hampshire counties,” Robert M. Cashman, Metro’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “We listened and responded to members and are now able to bring all New Hampshire residents and businesses  located in the Rockingham and Hillsboro counties the competitive financial products and services offered by Metro.”

Metro Credit Union has over $1 billion in assets, over 200,000 members and 15 branches.
