The Fall River Justice Center that will serve as the new Superior and District Court in Fall River recently opened its doors.
Boston-based Finegold Alexander + Assoc. Inc . and Providence, R.I.-based Dimeo Construction Co. partnered in the $85 million, 154,000-square-foot courthouse project, according to a statement. The building, located on South Main Street, was designed for LEED Silver certification.
The Fall River courthouse contains nine courtrooms, public circulation areas, a law library, a jury pool and detention areas.
"This is an exciting time for Fall River as it repositions itself as a leader among New England cities, focused on economic revitalization and moving the city away from its dependence on fossil fuels and toward a greener future," said Maurice Finegold, president of Finegold Alexander. "We were thrilled to be part of this initiative and designed a building that speaks to those values, providing abundant light and views throughout the interior without the architectural and MEP/energy costs associated with the typical atrium spaces that are often included in civic buildings."
